Neil has a background in renewable energy technology, policy and capital markets and is assisting RCS with cleantech investment and policy analysis.

He is a visiting scholar at UBC’s Sauder School of Business ISIS Research Centre where he is researching policies that might encourage the use of municipal waste as fuel in BC’s cement kilns.  This research is in part fulfilment of his MSc Environmental Technology from Imperial College London, one of the world’s most highly regarded and long-established programmes in the field.  The course has thirty years of alumni in government, business and NGOs.

Previously, Neil worked as director of business development for the UK’s first decentralised energy focused ESCO, introducing the concept of self-financing energy retrofits to schools and universities in England and helping them take responsibility for their carbon emissions.  He also helped launch a solar and wind analysis toolkit, designed to help UK landowners take advantage of the new Feed-In Tariff.

A CFA Charterholder with four years’ capital markets experience, Neil is pretty handy with an Excel spreadsheet, and knows his way around a Bloomberg terminal.

Neil was born and raised in Edinburgh, Scotland, and spent time in Lyon in France, Ypsilanti in Michigan and London, England before discovering the 137m Kitsilano Beach pool and moving to Vancouver in April 2010.
