Born and raised in Newfoundland and Labrador, Colin is keen on a good yarn. He is a consultant with Research Design – a grassroots, knowledge-based business he crafted to inspire social awareness through innovative research and education. His specialty is exploring relationships between people and structures of power. He is presently focused on corporate history and writing services. Forward thinking and expressive, Colin has a knack for constructing insightful historical analysis and spurring business development and productivity. Importantly, he enjoys good company and challenging adventures.

Colin completed a Master of Arts degree in history with an economics focus at Memorial University in 2005, and is Fellow of the School of Graduate Studies there. The Harris Centre funded his research through its Strategic Partnership Initiative for research in Provincial Economic Competitiveness in National and International Markets. His graduate work focused on hydroelectric development in Newfoundland and Labrador and the Canadian East generally; and explored the historical relevance of the hydroelectric-link concept (a proposed integrated transmission system between Newfoundland and Labrador) specifically in the province’s political and economic discourse.

He continued with Memorial University in a research capacity upon graduation. He played part on projects including Oil, Power and Dependency: Global and Local Realities of the Offshore Oil Industry in Newfoundland and Labrador (SSHRC), and Humber River Basin Project, Human Module through Time (including public infrastructure development in post-Confederation Newfoundland and Labrador). He also worked as Instructional Assistant, Department of Student Services coordinating student focused tutorial programs for undergraduate students.

Now living in Vancouver, Colin is exploring green technology and community development opportunities. He is also volunteering his time with David Suzuki Foundation, and the Bike Kitchen. In his spare time, he enjoys the great outdoors, a variety of music, and competitive sports.
